Manchester Metropolitan University is thrilled to announce the commencement of its annual, highly commended, programme, Success4Life. This project is open to all children with social care experience and young carers in Years 8 and 9 across Greater Manchester.

About Success4Life

Success4Life is a 6-week after school programme for students Years 8 and 9 who are either care-experienced or have caring responsibilities.

Over the weeks, Success4Life participants will take part in a range of activities that will develop their knowledge and skills to support their education such as team building, communication, wellbeing and confidence.

Where and when? 

The project will take part on campus at Manchester Metropolitan University (M15 6BY). The programme will run after school from 3.30pm until 5.45pm with a whole day university visit on the 23rd June. 

Below is a breakdown of the sessions: 

Week 1 (2nd June) Welcome session (3:30pm – 5:45pm): Meet the other participants and leads of the programme and join in with a range of games and learn about the programme

Week 2, (9th June) Teamworking (3:30pm – 5:45pm): Take part in a range of teambuilding challenges

Week 3, (16th June) Mindfulness & wellbeing (3:30pm – 5:45pm): Learn about mindfulness and develop new wellbeing strategies and try out the resources at Uni

Week 4, (23rd June) Full day campus visit (10:00am-2:40pm): Take part in a campus scavenger hunt, join a university workshop, ask current students questions about student life and have lunch at the student union

Week 5, (30th June) Strengths and skills (3:30pm – 5:45pm): Reflect on your achievements on the programme as well as your own strengths and skills.

Week 6, (7th July) Graduation (3:30pm – 5:45pm): Celebrate completing the programme with a university style graduation, and enjoy food and drink with supporters.

Is there a cost to Success4Life? 

No, the programme is completely free for participants!

How do I book a young person onto the programme? 

Please complete the online ‘nomination’ form linked on this page for the learner you wish to nominate for this project, only when this form is received are we able to consider a place on the programme. When the place is confirmed, further information about logistical arrangements will be provided and we’ll also send over a parent/carer consent form to be completed.

The deadline to complete the nomination form is Friday 15th May 

Note: All information will be kept confidential and used solely by the Success4Life team to ensure the young people benefit fully from the project.

How do I arrange transport for the programme?

From experience we’ve found that this project works best when transport for the young person is arranged by yourself or the school however we do have funding for travel that participants can charge travel costs to. Please get in touch if you have any questions. 

Will food be provided? 

Yes! Snacks will be available upon arrival and lunch will be provided on the full campus visit on the 23rd and food and drink will be available at the Graduation?
