Musical Composition Support

Musical Composition Support

About the event

In this 6-week short course, participants will be introduced to the basics of composition and challenged to work together in small groups to devise their own pieces, using non-traditional notation techniques.

Over the series of sessions, students will work with professional musicians to offer hands on curriculum support and feedback for their learning in composition, building on the model music curriculum framework.

Learners will:

  • Increase subject knowledge
  • Develop a capacity for creative and innovative thinking
  • Increase academic self-efficacy
  • Increase knowledge of future options
  • Increase teacher’s professional skills
  • Increase communication skills
  • Develop team-working and leadership skills
  • Enhance interpersonal and group work skills

This short course requires adequate instruments to be available in school, plus a large space to deliver taught sessions and break out spaces for groups to rehearse. It would also be beneficial for students to have time available to practise and work on their compositions in between sessions.

If you are unsure whether your school would qualify, please email: pathfinder@rncm.ac.uk

GM Higher will need to record the participation of learners in line with our funding requirements, so we will ask you to provide a register.
