Lecture with Professor David Olusoga: History Reimagined for A Changing World

About the event

Who can we trust? Where can we find reliable information? How can we decide whose story to believe? The skills you learn on a History degree are more relevant than ever.
Year 12/13 students are invited to join Professor David Olusoga, historian, writer, broadcaster, and BAFTA-winning filmmaker, for an engaging and thought-provoking lecture. As Professor of Public History at The University of Manchester, David explores why the study of history is vital in shaping both the present and future. Expect an exciting discussion on how Black British History can reveal hidden narratives and why it is crucial to bring these stories to the forefront.
The event also features contributions from The University of Manchester staff and students in the History Department, highlighting the dynamic and diverse range of research taking place. A panel of historians from the University and Factory International staff will further explore the themes raised during the lecture – with the opportunity for audience questions.
The event concludes with a powerful poetry performance by Young Identity, a Manchester-based charity that champions the voices and creativity of diverse young people through literature, writing and performance.
Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to deepen your understanding of history and its relevance to the world today and tomorrow.
Presented by The University of Manchester’s History Department and Creative Manchester, in partnership with Factory International.
