I first heard about the summer school from a person from the uni, coming to tell us about it in assembly, and I thought it would be a really good opportunity because my Auntie is the only one who's been to university and I thought - why not?

I gained communication, team building and confidence skills. All of the summer school was a great eye-opener to what uni will be like. I would like to take part in more GM Higher activities is if have more opportunities to do, more summer schools and open days. The university was spectacular and the summer school has inspired me to apply to MMU in the future.

The skills I've gained from this programme are things like social skills, communication... I've enjoyed most, getting to know people because I've never been in a place where everyone likes the same things and has a similar interest, so getting to know people that have the same interests as you, you have something to talk about, something to share.

The programme had an impact in a way where I’ve gained a greater insight into the young people of today…It’s eye-opening with what dreams they have and what they would like to achieve in their lives. Working on the programme has been beneficial to both parties: being able to support another person, particularly one that is younger and finding their footing in life, and as a student to gain this experience and develop skills is an opportunity that isn’t always easy to find.

The summer school has had a positive impact as I now find it easier to talk to new people I haven’t met before. I would recommend it to a friend because it was a great chance to try new things I haven’t done before and met new people, and it was a lot of fun. I would love to go to university because it can help me achieve things that I couldn’t achieve by just doing school and college.
