Young Carers: Journey to Success Programme

Are you a young carer in Year 8-11?

This project is for you! Over the course of five (and an optional sixth session) you will gain the skills and confidence to explore your future college, sixth form and university options. The programme consists of four key areas:

  • Promoting self-development through exploring careers & pathways to college, sixth form and university.
  • Exploring how best to manage feelings and stress whilst dealing with school and home workload.
  • Exploring the range of transferable skills and how they can be applied in the future.
  • Strategies to build confidence and resilience as a young person.

Session 1 – Introductions & Welcome 2Engage Workshop around getting to know one another & confidence building

Session 2 – Understanding your own identity & reflecting upon goals and aspirations for the future. We will be exploring the post 16 options and how to reach your goals and aspirations whilst being a young carer.

Session 3 – Transferable Skills

Session 4 – Dealing with Stress/Challenge/Workload

Session 5 – Study Skills Techniques

Session 6 – OPTIONAL Campus Visit Session this can be virtual or face-to-face at either University or Salford or UCEN Manchester (or both!)
