Merrily We Roll Along – Performing Arts – CANCELLED

Event providers: Salford City College

CANCELLED – Message from University Centre at Salford City College Performing Arts Staff –

In this challenging time, we want to assure you that your safety is our priority.

Last week the UK Government made the decision to move into the delay phase of attempting to limit the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19).

As this time, the advice from the Government’s scientific advisors is that large gatherings and public contact should be limited.

With this in mind, we have taken the decision to postpone the upcoming production of Merrily We Roll Again . It is with great regret that we have had to take this precautionary measure, but the safety of our staff/students/audience is our priority.

Please check the latest guidance from the NHS and Public Health England.

We appreciate your patience and understanding of this matter.

Experience a performing arts taster, a live theatre performance of a career themed play ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ and Q&A at the award-winning Pendleton School of Theatre.

Based on George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart’s 1934 play of the same name, Merrily We Roll Along follows the successful career of Broadway composer turned Hollywood producer Franklin Shepard. Throughout the course of the show, during which time regresses from 1976 to 1957, we learn how Frank accomplished this – with the help of his best friends Charley and Mary. The trio of friends are inspired to become big players in American musical theatre and book writing and to “change the world” after witnessing the Russian Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, orbiting the earth on a cold October night. However, over time, Franklin learns what the cost of fame and fortune is and what he may have lost along the way to success…

Merrily We Roll Along is a modest-sized show that crackles with the wit, humour and intensity that embody the spirit of New York City. With a brilliant ‘Broadway style’ score and that deep insight one expects from any Sondheim endeavour, Merrily We Roll Along is a spirited and moving cautionary tale for anyone who has ever pursued a dream.
