Go Further Y10 Online Mentoring Programme

Event providers: Greater Manchester Higher

What is Go Further mentoring?

It’s an online mentoring project designed to help you find out about the options available to you after school.

It is run by current university-level students (called Student Ambassadors) with the help of local colleges and universities. You will be matched to a Student Ambassador through the online Brightside platform, where you can find out lots of information and ideas to help you make decisions about the future.

What’s involved?

  • You’ll be matched with a Mentor for the six-week project (June–July)
  • You’ll exchange messages and look at resources online to help you explore your options after school and increase your ability to make decisions about the future
  • The project is flexible – you can access it online anywhere, at any time

What will I learn about?

  • Options after year 11
  • Different types of course and places you can study
  • Fun facts about Higher Education
  • How to fund Higher Education
  • What it is like to be a college or university student
  • How to make good decisions
  • Different study skills to help you right now
  • Revision techniques

What else do I need to know?

  • You’ll work with the same Student Ambassador each week for six weeks
  • They will introduce you to different types of online activities
  • They will ask you to try things out or find out information, but you won’t get homework
  • Your Ambassador will want to get to know you and help you find out things that interest you so remember to reply to their messages and ask lots of questions
