Debate Mate is an after-school debating programme run in state schools across the country in areas of educational disadvantage. The after-school clubs are run by top university students who act as teachers and inspirational mentor. The programme develops the listening, critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills of students who take part, giving them the skills and confidence to succeed in their future.
The Debate Mate programme consists of 14 one-hour after-school debating sessions plus participation in two national competitions. It runs from November to April and is for students from year 7-10. The clubs can run on a day and time of the school’s choice.
