Career in Health – Medical Mavericks

Event Fallback Image

Bring a real hospital to your school to showcase the amazing range of medical careers accessible to your students. During a workshop, students get to use real medical kit to discover how their body works and the different careers that would use them. The careers range from the well known, patient facing doctor, nurse, physio, dentist, to the lesser know medical engineers, physiologists, lab scientists, I.T coders, health practitioners and many more. The best part about the workshops is that the majority of the careers showcased are accessible with levels 9-4 at GCSE!

The activities include:

  • trying key hole surgery
  • using an ultrasound machine to see inside your body
  • record and print an ECG
  • Use a real needle to take fake blood from a fake arm
  • See inside their eye with an iPhone
  • Experience different eye diseases with the pathology goggles.
  • And much more!

Each student receives their own 4 page workbook to collect data from the equipment and check off activities. Each activity is linked to different careers and these are outlined in workbook. The ECG print out has a mini NHS careers sector poster on the back with an overview of 11 different sectors and routes into them through HE.
