Building the Future: Digital Technology in the Construction Industry

Event providers: University of Salford

This event is now fully booked for the 5th and 6th of May, but please still express your interest if you are interested for when we run it again in the future.

Description:

In partnership with industry professionals, the University of Salford’s Centre for Construction Innovation seeks to promote digital skills amongst the younger generation, which is essential to ensure future productivity and collaboration within the sector. Therefore, an exciting opportunity has arisen for schools to take part in a fully-funded digital technology awareness project. The project provides the opportunity to discover the construction industry by learning about the different roles available from the people currently in them. These professionals will demonstrate various digital technologies that are currently used within their work, truly bringing the industry to life. Pupils will also get the chance to develop skills that are necessary for higher education and the world of work: problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, collaboration, and presentation skills.

Format:

This exciting programme will be split into two parts. Firstly, you will welcome two or three different organisations into your school who will host demonstrations of various digital technologies. Additionally, there will be professionals from the construction industry who will discuss their roles, how technology plays a part in their day-to-day work, and how this has transformed over time.

Part two of the programme will take place at the University of Salford and will be a chance to discover the amazing technology that is an integral component of working and studying at the university. Students will visit the Science, Engineering and Environment building, the Maker Space, and the automation and robotics laboratory, all of which will showcase the state-of-the-art technology that is housed at the university.

After exploring the university and having lunch on campus, students will spend the afternoon taking part in a building competition where they will put to the test everything they have learned over the two days with the aim of winning the grand prize. This will also give them a chance to answer any questions they have to staff and current students.

We particularly welcome bookings for students from a BAME background.
