Back to the Future: It’s Positively Medieval!
Event providers: The University of Manchester
By looking at key passages from medieval religious dramas, students will be encouraged to think about what else these texts ‘do’. Students will identify any themes/issues that they see as relevant today – for example conversations on climate change and the refugee crisis.
The aim is to get them thinking about how medieval writers juxtaposed seemingly incongruent genres such as humour and religion in order to address key current debates.
By the end of the workshop, student’s initial perceptions of what the term ‘medieval’ means to them will have been challenged. This session will show the relevance of medieval texts, using them to explore the world and communities that we live in today.
