Description

The workshop sessions provide first hand access to the law using working courtrooms at Manchester Crown Court and other professional legal environments. This project specifically aims to break down barriers and remove preconceptions about entering Higher Education and the legal sector.  Pupils will understand the different routes into the legal sector.

Take to Law – (Half Day) 10-12noon or 1pm-3pm

Pupils will participate in a half day (2 hours) worth of activities which will include an introduction to the law and legal careers with a presentation from law students and legal professionals, followed by a Q&A session. Focus will be given to the traditional HE route and also higher level apprenticeships.  This is backed up by pupils meeting and engaging with law students and apprentices.  Pupils will then prepare and enact a contemporary learning trial at Manchester Crown Court, getting into character roles with additional support from law students/graduates.  (Choice of trial topics Knife Crime, Cyberbullying, Intent to supply Class A drugs).

Take to Law – (Full Day) 10am – 3pm

During this full day session, pupils will learn about law and university life. In the first part of the session University lecturers will discuss with pupils about the law and how it affects our everyday lives and careers available in law and the justice system and how they can be accessed. Pupils will get the opportunity to become familiar with the University campus, and the various facilities that the University has on offer.  In the second part of the session pupils will take part in an interactive moot courtroom workshop at the University, where they will take on the roles of judge, defendant, jury and legal teams to enact a real trial.  (Choice of trial Murder, Knife Crime, Cyberbullying)
