The National Skills Challenge

The National Skills Challenge in partnership with NatWest– The National Skills Challenge has been developed to address the skills gap amongst young people I transition from college to the world of HE and work.

The challenge sees student groups of three work on various ‘Apprentice’ style tasks set by New partners UCFB. Each challenge must be completed by the ‘deadline’ with penalties awarded if deadlines are not hit helping prepare students for the world of University deadlines.

Developed using the Gatsby Recommendations the challenge see the students harness their soft skills, including; teamwork, communication and leadership over the course of the college day.

–              Raise aspirations of the young people by offering a real life challenge with tangible reward of National Finals

–              Further develop skills required for Higher Apprenticeships including teamwork, communication, leadership and time management

–              Raise awareness and real life context to Higher Apprenticeships by including talk on the day from a local student or company offering Higher Apprenticeships

– Provide all young people taking part with a meaningful employer encounter as outlined in the Governments Careers Strategy
